Final Week in Bristol, UK

After 2 weeks of preparation and training, everything comes into action in the 3rd week. All the preparation of works is coming into Live. Sunday was the conversion day and it was a long day. However, it was quite interesting to see how everything is putting into place, making sure everything goes according to the plan, hoping all the systems are working probably and wishing that nothing will screw up.

This is the Live Supporting week in supporting the hotel and making sure that staffs are using the program probably and is confident with it. As usual, some people are moaning and complaining about the new system, others just anxious to find out how the new system is going to help them with their daily work.

I guess this is always the case. When you are too comfortable with a situation, people or thing; you are either taking it for granted or too lazy to making a change. But, if you are not willing to change, how are you suppose to know that there are better things in life awaiting you?

I felt so lucky and blessed working together with this team because they are so nice, friendly, funny and knowledgeable. This project has been going very well which usually it is not the case. I guess team work and co-operation are the keys. After this week, everybody will be separated and going into another hotel. I’m so going to miss everybody and hope to work with them again in the future.

Our motto - “Smile & Deploy, Convert & Destroy!”

Next destination – Belfast, Ireland.

Second Week In Bristol, UK

Well, after the first week, second week pretty much is the same and it was much easier than the first week because you can’t expect anything more (or worst).

This weekend, I went to London again because I just found out that one of my friends was in London as well but will be leaving on Saturday. So I went to visit him on Friday night and came back on Saturday. Although I managed to finish work earlier on Friday and thinking that I could reach London before 6pm and have a longer catch-up session. Who knows, there was a massive traffic jam due to the heavy rain and flooded a few places. The train service has been terminated and everybody has to travel by their own transport. So I ended up in London at 8pm (which got stuck in the traffic for 2 hours!!). To make it worst, the air-con in the bus wasn’t working probably, so it was a total nightmare!

Back in Bristol in the afternoon and I took the opportunity to visit the town. It was quite nice to finally to see the city (See Picture Below)

In the evening, I went out for a dinner with my team mates. Later at night, we were drinking in my room and listening to some of my amazing music collection. Particularly, I have been haunted by Amy Winehouse, because the radio kept playing her songs and she was featured in one of my friend’s blog. So I was curious to find out more about her. To my liking (and my team mates), we were listening to her newly downloaded songs from my laptop and having a good chillout session together.

Nothing beats a good company with good music over a couple of drinks (and cigarettes).

Weekend In London

Last weekend, I went to visit my good Kiwi friend in London. She had a small gathering with her best friends to celebrate one of her friend’s birthday. One of their friend even flew all the away in from Scotland to give the Birthday girl a surprise. We wanted to chill out at a local Jazz bar but unfortunately it was closed by the time we get there. So we ended up having Chinese food at 2am in China Town (which was really good for me cox I’m so missing ‘white steamed rice’). It was pretty busy in China Town. After that we took a short walk and headed back to our hotel.

On Saturday, because it was my first time in London, they took me for a short sight seeing. I really dun know what are these tourist places but only can remember I saw them on the TV before, i.e. Farrell Wheel, Big Ben, Harrods, Covent Garden, etc.

On Saturday afternoon, we went back to my friend’s place (Maidenhead) which is about half an hour away from London via Tube ride. She has a really nice apartment and on Sunday, we had BBQ at her place.

It was a lovely weekend - being away from the hotel, visiting London, seeing my best friend, had Chinese Food & BBQ.

Although the weekend was too short and expensive but it was quite worth it.

First Week In Bristol, UK

Man…..It felt a Light Year already!

This is how you will feel when you are staying in a hotel out of nowhere. You can’t go anywhere & everywhere that you go, you have to take the taxi, which is very expensive. So end up, I’ll have to stay in the hotel all the time. The gym here is pathetically small! The food wasn’t very good! (but the restaurant is always full??) The water pressure in the bath room is so badly low! Seriously, there is nothing much I can do here. It’s very much like a motel. That’s why it felt like a long time.

Luckily the work is quite interesting and I’m in a good team.

I’m so looking forward to travel around the Asia region because I know all the hotels in Asia are way nicer and better than any of the hotels outside of Asia. I mean, I won’t mind to stay in KL or Bangkok for 3 months because I’ll enjoy every single part of the hotel corner while I’m there. But I still have to clock in my time in UK till end of September. Hopefully time will pass quickly.

Update

I have so much to share (my new life & music) but I just don't have much time to update anything here at the moment. I'm trying to upload some of the pictures taken here but still trying to work out a new layout for this blog.

The internet access in this hotel is pretty slow (althought it is Broadband) and is taking ages to upload my music.

I'm just hoping to find more time and all I can said now is

"I'm still alive and is so missing HOME!"

New Job, New Begining, New Job?

As everybody knows that I have a new job that requires me traveling around the world for the next 2 years aimlessly. To some people, it may sounds like a high flying job. But I seriously doubt it! Not that I’m complaining but sometime it is hard to being away from your family and friends. It’s suck! Not mentioning being 6’1 tall and if you are not flying business class and above, it will always be a nightmare. Moreover, the night before, I will have to crack my head and deciding which are the cloths I have to bring, what are the essential stuffs I need to take, etc…To me, everything is important! It’s impossible to travel light!! I can’t leave my favourite shirts behind?! I have to bring my party shoes?! I have to take my jeans! And I have to bring all the business attires!

It is just so stressful. I have to pack, unpacked and re-packed. No matter how I packed, I will never satisfy.

My first destination is UK and I will be there for 3 months. Before leaving Singapore, my groups of dear friends had a small farewell gathering for me. It was very sweet of them. I was actually quite nervous and stress about starting this new job. On the other hands, I just can’t wait to start the new role. It’s the flying that bothering me. So I was not looking forward to my 13 hours flight to UK.

Checking-in always is a problem for me. First, I couldn’t get an exit seat, and then there was no aisle seat available, so I got stuck in the middle. Sigh.

Then, as usual, I’m overweight! Sigh.

So I have re-packed again at the airport. It was so unglamorous. Luckily, my best friend came in last minute and sorted something out for me.

Throughout the 13 hours flight, I had zero conversation with my neighbors sitting next to me. I can also sense that both of them don’t like to make any conversations. So I just leave it as it was. Luckily, somehow, I managed to sleep through 6 hours so by the time I woke up, I only left with 3 more hours to reach London. So it wasn’t too bad.

Once I reached London Heathrow Airport, I met up with 2 of my Aussie team mates and we head to another 2 hours couch to Bristol. However, once we reached at the hotel, which was 9am local time, the room was not ready till 3 pm only. So we decided to visit Bath, an old Roman city which was 15 minutes away by train.

Bath was an interesting town apparently famous for its historical of hot spring, etc, etc. It was Sunday and there were many tourists in the city. So we went to quite a few interesting places. By 3pm, we were all very tired and decided to head back to the hotel.

So it was my very first day in UK.
